Importing

As Importing Agents for: Mariah Hill Alpacas & Quarantine Station (Raelene Strong) Victoria,   Melbourne, Australia.  We have undertaken to be the “Nominated Importers” for animal shipments being flown into Auckland International Airport from Melbourne arriving mostly on a Saturday.  B.J. Farm are registered with New Zealand Customs, as Importing Agents. Raelene supplies us with dates of shipment arrivals, animal details etc, at the beginning of each quarantining.

We apply to MAF Imports for one “Import Permit” to cover the complete shipment. (By having everything included in “one shipment’ this can save the ‘owners of the animals’ being charged for separate fees.)

With the shipment underway, we then contact the various owners and discuss the transport options that best suits them and their animals, we also ask for the owners to supply the – purchase price of each of their animals so that GST can be calculated.

Approximately 2 weeks before the shipment is due to arrive, B.J. Farm issues each person an account, which MUST be paid by “Direct Credit” to our account, BEFORE the shipment arrives, otherwise the animals will not be released until MAF,  N.Z. Customs and ourselves have been paid. (details are supplied when the account is sent out).

The account is calculated on the number of animals in each shipment:        Share of: Import Permit fees,  MAF clearance fees, N.Z. Customs clearance fees, GST is payable on the above, plus purchase price of each animal, Australian quarantine, testing and freight, we receive a copy of your account from Raelene.

We also include our agency clearance fee which is at (31/7/06) NZ$50incl gst per animal, plus transport costs which are calculated per kilometer based on the number of animals being delivered  to a particular area.  South Island  people, we are happy to offer the same service, should your animals fly into Auckland, however, we recommend transport with Inter Island Horse Transports or a group with Lance Morley which needs to be arranged well in advance of the shipment arriving – this we can discuss with you.

We go to the Airport to meet the plane and animals on arrival, together with a MAF vet and Custom Clearance Agent.  Once the animals are checked and MAF clearance is complete, we remove the animals from their crates into our specially built trailers ready for transport to the various owners.

Please note: While all care is taken by ourselves, it is the responsibility of each owner of the animals to arrange insurance cover on their animals.

United Kingdom and EU countries (animals coming to N.Z.-in transit for 6 months). The above all apply to yourselves, however, we suggest, prior to selecting and purchasing any alpacas, please read  EXPORTS.

Exporting
Bev & John – Registered MAF Exporters
B.J. Farm – Registered MAF, Pre Export Isolation & Quarantine Farm

We have many years of experience in exporting various species of animals to many different countries. We also have many years experience in animal husbandry  - this plays a key part in understanding and caring for the needs of your animals. We have top quality approved export facilities, sheding, yarding, and timber rail fences, with tree covenant  (fenced off) areas separating most paddocks.  We supplement feed each day,  (each animal is given a separate dish, with a special supplement mixture we ourselves make up ) enabling us to have a daily check on each animal.

When animals arrive at B.J .Farm – we isolate them and they are immediately TB tested by MAF vets, (this is because we belong to a TB scheme whereby  all our animals have been tested - we do live in a TB free area) we also will give each animal their first AD & E and 5 in 1 injection, we also have in place a drenching program suitable for the various times of the year.

United Kingdom & EU countries, 6 month in transit stop over – as per the EU protocol if animals are purchased in Australia. We are happy to offer you all the above, however we would recommend before purchasing any alpacas – you first contract your Alpaca Associations ie:

BAS British Alpaca Association
AZVD Alpaka Zucht Verband Deutschland
VLAS Switzerland
ITALPAC Italy
ALF France

Each Association has in place Rules & Regulations re Importing – which spells out to you the conditions for Importing alpacas into your country – this is to protect you the Importer - PLEASE obtain this information FIRST.

Each Association requires ALL ALPACAS to be SCREENED – which each  Association arranges on your behalf – once you have this information – you are then able to make better decisions re selecting of your alpacas.

When selecting your alpacas it is BEST to enter a sale agreement – subject to the alpacas passing the Import screening program -  arrange to have this done on the property where you are considering purchasing the animals.

While this is all being sorted, it will give you the time to contact a Registered Exporter ie. Mariah Hill Alpaca Ranch & Quarantine Station, Victoria, Melbourne, Australia. (see link below) and discuss with Raelene your plans etc.

Once you have made your purchase and arrangements with Raelene – we at B.J. Farm are happy to look after the rest, offering 6 months – in transit care for your animals – at very competitive prices – yet we do not ‘cut any corners” the health and wellbeing of your animals, is our top priority, so that you can have a ‘hassle free’ experience. Should any of your females give birth during their stay on B.J. Farm – we are happy to offer you a “Stud mating” – at a “special discounted price) to one of our “elite” award winning males – ( 3x whites, 2x med fawn, black &grey), this then gives you the opportunity of not missing a breeding season and you are able to have a 3 in 1 package as part of your investment.  The last month of the 6 months – we place your animals into quarantine isolation for a minimum of 30 days (as per the EU protocol) and under the control of MAF – your animals will be tested,  checked and cleared ready to be air freighted to the UK.

Purchasing alpacas, in New Zealand.
We ourselves do offer some of our award winning “elite” alpacas – For Sale  - however, if we do not have what you are looking for – we are happy to source them for you.  If the alpacas are born here in N.Z. or have already been 6 monthsresidence in N.Z. – once screened and purchased – they can immediately be placed into quarantine isolation for a minimum of 30days (as per the EU protocol)  and air freighted over to you.
